Richard Steighner in Myrtle Beach

Quick thanks to my dad.

Had a chance to visit my dad and his family down in Myrtle Beach. He found out I was gonna be on the East Coast for a short tour and bought me a plane ticket to see him! Thanks pops!

Myrtle Beach, as tourist towns goes, is pretty unique. It’s definitely grown but somehow it has kept a little down-home feel to it. Traffic has always been a little heavy as beach-goers try to hit Wal-Mart before their rental, but once you get where you are going people are just out to have a good time. Beer and fireworks and putt-putt and a thousand souvenir stores…really just a good time!

My dad lives a few miles inland where there are a ton of golf courses. We had a chance to go…and I am again reminded of how bad I am at this game! It was hot, humid, and I was playing with borrowed clubs…but these are just excuses :). My props to you scratch golfers out there!

One last thing…

I make it a point, every time I see a beach, to go into the ocean. It seems so cool that when you get to the ocean, you reach a very real barrier where we don’t build, live, or congregate (save a few examples). It’s almost a level of respect and I have to go “shake hands” and greet the other side.
